Illustrating the interest and passion for the Lancaster and Bomber Command, the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre held an ‘Open Lancaster Day’ on 28 June.
A steady stream of appreciative visitors took advantage of the free exterior and pre-booked interior tours of Mk.VII Just Jane. Although there was a fee for the 30 minute long interior tours, put simply, where else are you able to participate in a tour of such a valuable piece of our aviation heritage and experience the aircraft first-hand, sitting at each crew position to experience the sights, smells and atmosphere with an immensely knowledgeable guide?
Adding to an already memorable day for visitors, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster PA474 arrived overhead accompanied by two Spitfires and performed three perfect passes over Just Jane as she sat outside the main hangar. There is nowhere else in Europe you can see two Lancasters together, and this fact wasn’t lost on those present as their cameras captured the moment.
