The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage centre hosted the annual Ford Capri car rally on 20 April. Under glorious blue skies and blessed with warm sunshine, Lancaster Just Jane and the WWII Watch Tower served as a backdrop to around 100 of Ford's modern classic. Examples of the Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.III were on site, and just about every model was present for inspection with their attentive owners nearby to answer questions.
In the late 1960s the Capri was marketed as “the car you always promised yourself” and nearly two million people in Europe and America fulfilled that promise. Even eleven years after its launch in the United Kingdom it was still one of the top ten selling cars in the country, and its appeal can only have increased following regular appearances in ITV’s ‘The Professionals’ television drama series.
The next major event at East Kirkby is the Large Model Airshow, taking place on the 4 and 6 May. Just Jane will taxy three times on both days and a variety of large radio controlled aircraft, both propeller and jet driven, will perform on each day – weather permitting.
