This year's Battle of Britain event was unfortunately hit with cancellations by two if its display aircraft.

BBMF Lancaster PA474 cancelled its appearance following an early morning departure from Coningsby for a night stop at Kemble. However, Hurricane LF363 did display, presenting the gathered audience with some pleasing topside passes.

In previous years we have been treated to Spitfire Mk.XVI TD248 and a Buchon (Me109) operating from East Kirkby and performing an airfield attack & dogfight. Sadly, the Buchon cancelled at short notice and although the Spitfire displayed, it did not participate in the airfield attack. The void was filled by Spitfire T.9 MJ627 attacking East Kirkby in quite an aggressive manner, with plenty of pyrotechnics synchronised with each pass.

Towards the end of the day a six Chipmunk flypast from Wickenby was a pleasant addition; the aircraft involved being G-ALWB, G-APYG, G-UANO (1367), G-HAPY (WP803), G-BWMX (WG407) and G-BWNK (WD390).

The 2012 Battle of Britain event will be superseded by the RAFBF Airshow on 15th September.
