A new event on the L.A.H.C. calendar, the 2009 American Air Day was held on 4 May and presented visitors with the opportunity for a close look at some quality examples of American warbirds.
American themed Second World War re-enactors set up displays around the centre and despite the inclement weather, there was flying in the form of East Kirkby's latest resident, Dakota N473DC Drag 'em oot. The aircraft featured strongly in the proceedings, having successfully completed its post winter servicing with a test flight two days before.
P-51D Mustang Marinell, flown by Maurice Hammond, also performed a very impressive display and joined the small static line up of Dakota, Stearman and Harvard.
Also on the ground was G-AOIR, a 1943 vintage de Havilland Jackaroo (a modified DH.82A) and from North Weald came Beech H-18 N663TB, acting as Dakota crew support aircraft.
